Camelot's Dream

It is a dream? What is happening now, is it a dream? Well, whether or not, I will vent here.

a witness to our lives

I was watching the move “shall we dance” with the wife this weekend while in retreat.  The cabin is our retreat or escape from the city and run of life.  Back to the movie.  Why is it when you watch a movie for the second or third or even more times you pick up on lines or thoughts, or expressions that eluded you the first time around?  I remember the line Susan S made to the detective regarding marriage.  Her character stated that people get married in order to have a witness to their lives.  When I first saw the movie, I remembered that line but had forgotten it.  But hearing it again….

I think about the various generations before us that never had witnesses to what took place.  Then one looks at the parents to see what was witnessed.  We only see what we can remember as we grew up and only what we observed with our minimum understanding of what was taking place at the time of the observation.  If I were to observe today an event that took place back when I was 12 years old, I am sure I would have a different take on the situation than then.  I guess the same with marriage.  Our level of maturity at 7 years of marriage was different than where we are today with 32 years under the belt.  We change, we think differently.

One thing for sure, our relationship has matured.  Interesting way to put it.  Compared to the Philippines in 1974 to this last weekend at the cabin?  Uhm…

Bruce Willis was interviewed and made a comment that was interesting with regards to age and relationships.  More later on that.
