Camelot's Dream

It is a dream? What is happening now, is it a dream? Well, whether or not, I will vent here.

Kayakyakyak

Rented the hobie mirage tandem kayak. This is the one that has the hydrosail peddle system. Now the problem is that the lake - 11mile res. What a pain. I hate going there only because the weather is unpredictable. Finally on Sunday morning the lake was calm. Great time.
Of course any time at the cabin is great.

truth - a test of time

Once in a while I receive an email that I think is worthy of passing on or keeping on file.  Some are pretty believable and depending on my serotonin levels might get wrapped up in the story.  I have found that before going forward with a few I check them out, just to make sure. I have missed a few though. One site is http://www.truthorfiction.com/ and then of course http://hoaxbusters.org/.

Have you had the experience of the email from Butscumbia Africa?  The one that states that you are the only living relative of Major Whatbitme?  Well, go to http://www.scamorama.com/  and prepare for a good read.  I recommend a cup of coffee, a sweet Dominican Republic handrolled cigar* and time.  Read how some of the followers of scamorama lead these desperate souls along.  I guess I need to get back to work.

Bruce Willis and 50

Yes the actor has turned 50. He is single now that Demi is off with Ashton. (this is hard for me to understand, but then who am I?)
Earlier in a posting I mentioned Bruce. He was being interviewed by a reporter of People magazine. One of the last posts of the article was probably the most prophetic statement from the left coast. Only because it was not political but about life. The question was: Is sex better at 50 or 25?
The answer: Fifty. You're in less of a hurry. You know a few more tricks. For me, you make it more about the woman. And just the simple fact that at 50 you can still do it. That's a nice little bonus by itself.

Thumbs up Bruce.

Yes, you can find this article in the March 21st, 2005 edition of the People magazine.

What today has to hold

The news today included the BTK killer's sentencing, the settlement issues in the Gaza strip, and the resurrection of Vanilla Ice.
Vanilla Ice? Wow, the one rapper this white boy could understand. Uhm, rappers...
My first introduction to T-Bone was in the movie "the last temptation". Now the idea of a Christian rapper sounds good. Even necessary, but I am having a hard time getting into "it". Maybe I need more time. Who knows..

a witness to our lives

I was watching the move “shall we dance” with the wife this weekend while in retreat.  The cabin is our retreat or escape from the city and run of life.  Back to the movie.  Why is it when you watch a movie for the second or third or even more times you pick up on lines or thoughts, or expressions that eluded you the first time around?  I remember the line Susan S made to the detective regarding marriage.  Her character stated that people get married in order to have a witness to their lives.  When I first saw the movie, I remembered that line but had forgotten it.  But hearing it again….

I think about the various generations before us that never had witnesses to what took place.  Then one looks at the parents to see what was witnessed.  We only see what we can remember as we grew up and only what we observed with our minimum understanding of what was taking place at the time of the observation.  If I were to observe today an event that took place back when I was 12 years old, I am sure I would have a different take on the situation than then.  I guess the same with marriage.  Our level of maturity at 7 years of marriage was different than where we are today with 32 years under the belt.  We change, we think differently.

One thing for sure, our relationship has matured.  Interesting way to put it.  Compared to the Philippines in 1974 to this last weekend at the cabin?  Uhm…

Bruce Willis was interviewed and made a comment that was interesting with regards to age and relationships.  More later on that.

Hard to believe

How do these people survive?

ONE
Recently, when I went to McDonald's I saw on the menu that you could have an order of 6, 9 or 12 Chicken McNuggets. I asked for a half dozen nuggets. "We don't have half dozen nuggets," said the teenager at the counter. "You don't?" I replied. "We only have six, nine, or twelve," was the reply. "So I can't order a half dozen nuggets, but I can order six?" "That's right." So I shook my head and ordered six McNuggets

TWO
I was checking out at the local Wal-Mart with just a few items and the lady behind me put her things on the belt close to mine. I picked up one of those "dividers" that they keep by the cash register and placed it between our things so they wouldn't get mixed. After the girl had scanned all of my items, she picked up the "divider", looking it all over for the bar code so she could scan it. Not finding the bar code she said to me, "Do you know how much this is?" I said to her "I've changed my mind, I don't think I'll buy that today." She said "OK," and I paid her for the things and left. She had no clue to what had just happened.

THREE
A lady at work was seen putting a credit card into her floppy drive and pulling it out very quickly. When I inquired as to what she was doing, she said she was shopping on the Internet and they kept asking for a credit card number, so she was using the ATM "thingy."

FOUR
I recently saw a distraught young lady weeping beside her car. "Do you need some help?" I asked. She replied, "I knew I should have replaced the battery to this remote door unlocker. Now I can't get into my car. Do you think they (pointing to a distant convenience store) would have a battery to fit this?" "Hmmm, I dunno. Do you have an alarm, too?" I asked. "No, just this remote thingy," she answered, handing it and the car keys to me. As I took the key and manually unlocked the door, I replied, "Why don't you drive over there and check about the batteries. It's a long walk."

FIVE
Several years ago, we had an Intern who was none too swift. One day she was typing and turned to a secretary and said, "I'm almost out of typing paper. What do I do?" "Just use copier r machine paper," the secretary told her. With that, the intern took her last remaining blank piece of paper, put it on the photocopier and proceeded to make five "blank" copies.

SIX
I was in a car dealership a while ago, when a large motor home was towed into the garage. The front of the vehicle was in dire need of repair and the whole thing generally looked like an extra in "Twister." I asked the manager what had happened. He told me that the driver had set the "cruise control" and then went in the back to make a sandwich.

SEVEN
My neighbor works in the operations department in the central office of a large bank. Employees in the field call him when they have problems with their computers. One night he got a call from a woman in one of the branch banks who had this question: "I've got smoke coming from the back of my terminal. Do you guys have a fire downtown?"

EIGHT
Police in Radnor, Pa., interrogated a suspect by placing a metal colander on his head and connecting it with wires to a photocopy machine. The message "He's lying" was placed in the copier, and police pressed the copy button each time they thought the suspect wasn't telling the truth. Believing the "lie detector" was working, the suspect confessed.

NINE
A mother calls 911 very worried asking the dispatcher if she needs to take her kid to the emergency room, the kid was eating ants. The dispatcher tells her to give the kid some Benadryl and should be fine, the mother says, I just gave him some ant killer..... Dispatcher: Rush him in to emergency!

Life is tough. It's tougher if you're stupid."

Protests Tuition hike rate

A student had this to write regarding the recent tuition increase by CCCS.  Here is to our program surviving!!!

To College Relations and other interested parties:

When registering for on-line classes this evening I was totally astonished and disappointed that Red Rocks College has raised on-line tuition by 76% and has enacted this exorbitant increase in only one semester.

I am in the middle of a certificate program and these costs are an assault to my family’s financial well being. I most likely would not have started this certificate at the new rates and continuing my studies to an AAS degree may now be out of reach. On-line education is my only means of continuing education as I live in a remote location. I also enjoy the diversity of ideas and target the specialized course offerings at varying institutions.

What are the motivations at your exemplary institution in excluding fellow Americans through such unequal and accelerated tuition increases?  On-Line education… no heat, no electric, very little facility wear and tear . A special technology fee, yes. A 76% increase in one semester could be construed as attempted elimination of all non Colorado residents with limited means.  Are the boundaries between the states getting thicker? Let’s care for our children and let the neighbors eat cake. What a unified country we would be with that attitude.

Forget my personal situation and laments but consider that this tuition structuring is a tremendous set back for knowledge sharing between the states and within each discipline. The sharing of knowledge, ideas, and resources makes the world a better place to live in. U.S. colleges and institutions should start by eliminating the territorial (state) discrimination which incur unnecessary educational limits.

Each trade or discipline should speak up loudly for the free and equal access to the shared knowledge base of this Country by fostering on-line education and treating all on-line U.S.A. students equally.

I live in MA. and have spent my On-line education dollars over the past 5 years in CA. ,MI. and CO. for program content not geographic reasoning. (Hello…the # 1 reason and # 1 strong point of ON-line education! ) Perhaps future affordable On-line education will have to be from MA. Institutions if this academic discrimination creeps into all school Bursars offices.

Taking responsibility

I will admit that I have sluffed responsibility. For a number of years growing up I would excuse my short comings on my home environment, education, lot in life, and what or who ever else. And probably still do.
As a substitute teacher I could see myself in a number of students I was charged with. I would if I had the chance let these individuals know that they could blame everyone else, but ultimately, they would suffer.
I guess in a society of lawsuits and "it can't be be my fault," "it was the fries @ McD's that made me do it," that might drive the train.
Being a teacher of adults I encounter the same, and this weekend was no different. The courses held were to help individuals that were disadvantaged or just looking for work to attend and hopefully gain viable employment. I heard some crazy excuses for not attending class or not passing a test. Yes, I know there are those that have legit issues, but then there are those that are willing to put the onus on you, me, the teacher's pet in 2nd grade, or the lead in pencils.
Peter Jennings died yesterday of lung cancer @ the age of 67. In the discussions it came out he never finished high school. That was his one regret in life. Yet! He was one of the top news guys in the world. How is that possible? No one to blame and didn't sit in the corner and blame the high cost of rice for not getting anywhere in life.
Now, who can I blame for me not getting my dissertation done? Oh yes, my 7th grade science tacher who said I would probably never graduate. Had I taken him for is word, I could have been a major news anchor - not.
Look within before pointing fingers.

FW: Another first . . .

Some one is putting this out as a hoax, right???  Please tell this is a hoax, please, please, please

Subject: Another first . . .

Another first--Jesse Jackson's New Staff Member:

Jessie Jackson has added former Chicago Democrat Congressman Mel Reynolds
to Rainbow/PUSH Coalition's payroll. Reynolds was among the 176 criminals excused in President Clinton's last-minute forgiveness spree. Reynolds received a commutation of his six-and-a-half-year federal sentence for 15 convictions of wire fraud, bank fraud and lies to the Federal Election  Commission. He is more notorious, however, for concurrently serving five years for sleeping with an underage campaign volunteer.

This is a first in American politics:

An ex-congressman who had sex with a subordinate . . . won clemency from a president who had sex with a  subordinate . . . then was hired by a clergyman who had sex with a subordinate.  His new job?

Ready for this??

What does the future look like?

I am one that pushes for thinking out side the box, embracing change, having either a strategic plan or a form of project management. I like to think that a plan such as an 18 month, 3 year and 5 year plan is necessary to manage what is happening in life.
Now, why does that not happen? It is the strangest thing I have had to deal with being where I am now. Shoot from the hip is what the mantra is, or at least that is what we see. No one is willing to sit down and round table a discussion to discuss problems and solutions. If you do not agree, well, make sure you can clear your desk in 30 minutes or less.

Side note: always back up your drives at least once a week if you do major documentation and have a contacts list that is changing. Just FYI
